Religious Education
At Lammack, we are very proud of our large multicultural and multi-faith school. We offer ALL our children and parents a warm welcoming atmosphere, regardless of culture or belief. We aim to prepare our children for living in the 21st Century by developing skills and knowledge that will enable them to play their future part in a fast moving, challenging exciting, multi-cultural and multi-faith Britain. We aim to achieve these goals through several subjects such as religious and personal & social education, but even more importantly through the experience of learning side by side in a respectful, tolerant school community.
In Religious Education, we follow the Lancashire Agreed Syllabus, which is broadly Christian and includes topics on the other major world faiths -Islam, Judaism, Buddhism and Hinduism. Please note - we are not a faith school and as such do not educate for one faith only.
We also deliver a structured programme for multicultural education (recognised as excellent by Ofsted Inspectors 2003.) We aim to celebrate diversity through the various major religious festivals, customs and traditions across the world. At Easter, the major Christian festival, everyone enjoying Easter biscuits and hot cross buns follows our assembly. We also mark Christmas with carols, nativity plays, parties and presents. During the month of Ramadan we invite all children to consider the hunger of the world and at Eid each child receives 20p to celebrate the occasion. We regularly welcome to our school Mrs Pearson minister of the local Methodist Church to talk to the children at assemblies. Bicknell Street Mosque welcome our staff and governors each year to look at the work of the Madrasahs. Each term we choose a country for our multicultural focus.
The children enjoy studying the art, music, geography, stories and traditions of that country .You will see evidence of the work throughout the school, including the gardens! Children and staff enjoy this work very much.
